day 8: mat 1-5 reflections

3 12 2007

I love seeing all those great people I read about in the OT within Jesus’ family tree – simply incredible! I think one of my unsung heroes in the Bible is Joseph (father of Jesus).  He gets shafted as far as I am concerned.  Jesus had to have learned so much from his earthly dad that we don’t even know.  I wish we knew more about Jesus life before his ministry began.  Joseph took such a huge risk in following through with Mary, especially in his culture.  Father help me to be the same sort of man.

It’s so cool Jesus came out of Bethlehem.  God could have set it up where he came out of Rome or some high place but he didn’t.  The three wisemen truly showed worship in kneeling before Jesus and presenting gifts.  What gifts do I bring you in worship God?

How can I not enjoy reading about John the Baptist.  The poor guy was beheaded and all he did was pave the way for Jesus.  He took no credit at all.  He didn’t care what anybody thought.  For crying out loud the dude ate locusts and dressed in camel hair!  He gave the Pharisees a spanking in Chapter 3 and stated some questions I need to ask myself.

Being day 8 of my Daniel fast, Jesus example in Chapter 4 was timely.  I need to memorize more scripture – the Devil quotes it even!

Ever since I’ve learned more about the Jewish culture and viewing Jesus as a Rabbi just makes me look at the calling of the disciples a whole new way.   Jesus showed the true example of team building in Chapter 5, setting the example of withdrawing to teach.  I needed to hear the beautitudes, how I need to be salt and light, and ending out with loving my enemies.
